About Rail Nation Remastered
What is Rail Nation Remastered? Rail Nation Remastered is a new mobile-first version of Rail Nation, built from the ground up with a fully 3D world, modernized visuals, and a redesigned interface made specifically for phones. It’s the same game you know and love — same cooperative gameplay, same world — just brought to life in a completely new way on mobile.
Is this a replacement for the original Rail Nation? No. The classic Rail Nation game is here to stay. Remastered is an additional way to experience Rail Nation, not a replacement for it. We are investing in the future of the franchise, and that future includes both the game you’ve been playing and new ways to experience it.
Is Rail Nation shutting down? Absolutely not. This announcement is a signal of investment in Rail Nation’s future — nothing more. We want to be transparent with our community, which is exactly why we’re sharing this early and involving you in the process.
Why is it called “Remastered”? The name reflects what it is: a rebuilt, modernized experience of the same game. Same heart, new look, new platform. Think of it the way a remastered album brings a classic to a new generation with better sound — the soul of Rail Nation is still there, just with a fresh coat of paint and a new way to play.
What’s actually new in Remastered? Quite a bit on the visual and technical side:
- A fully 3D world with detailed train and station models
- Improved map environments and visual presentation
- A mobile-first interface designed to feel natural on your phone
- Push-based updates, meaning the game keeps you informed in real time — no more constant refreshing
- Reduced timer and data sync issues (goodbye, teleporting trains)
The Playtest
What is the playtest exactly? It’s the first time we’re opening Rail Nation Remastered to players outside the development team. A small group of selected testers will get early access to play the game on mobile and share structured feedback with us. This helps us understand what’s working, what needs improvement, and whether the new direction feels right.
When does the playtest start? The playtest launches on 22. June.
How long will it run? The playtest covers the first two eras of a Classic map running at 2x speed. It is not a full game round.
Is this a finished version of the game? No — and we want to be upfront about that. Many features are still in development, and the game will look and feel different from a polished release. What we’re testing is the direction: the new visual style, the mobile experience, and how the core Rail Nation gameplay translates to the new format. Please expect rough edges.
What platform is it on? iOS and Android. Testers will receive access via Apple TestFlight (iPhone/iPad) or Google Play closed testing (Android), depending on their device.
Signing Up
How do I sign up? You can register via the dedicated sign-up page here: Playtest.
What email address should I use to register? This is important: please register using the email address linked to your App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android) account. This is required for us to grant you access to the test build. Using a different email address may mean you don’t receive your invite.
Who is this playtest for? We’re primarily looking for:
- Existing Rail Nation players who are active and engaged
- Players who are genuinely interested in game development and testing
- English- or German-speaking players (those are the languages we’ll be supporting during this round)
Do I need any special skills or technical knowledge? No. We’re not looking for bug testers or developers — we’re looking for Rail Nation players who care about the game and can tell us honestly what they think of the new experience.
I signed up. When will I hear back? A few days after registering, you’ll receive a short survey with a few questions about your Rail Nation experience. We’ll use your answers to select testers and follow up with those chosen ahead of the June 22 launch. If you’re not selected for this round, don’t worry — your registration keeps you in the pool for future playtest iterations.
What if I don’t get selected this time? We’d still love to have you involved in future rounds. Everyone who signs up becomes part of our long-term tester community, and we’ll be running more playtests as development continues. You won’t need to sign up again.
During the Playtest
What will I be asked to do? Play the game, explore the new experience, and share your feedback. There will be two short surveys — one shortly after you start, focused on first impressions, and one near the end of the test, covering your overall experience. You’ll also have access to a the Rail Nation Discord server where you can chat with other testers and the Rail Nation team directly.
Will there be ways to talk to the developers? Yes. We’re planning AMA-style sessions with developers in the Rail Nation Discord server (category: Rail Nation Remastered). We want real conversations, not just survey responses.
Will my progress or any rewards carry over to the main game? No. This is an isolated test environment. Any progress made during the playtest stays within the playtest and will not affect your existing Rail Nation account.
Looking Ahead
Will Remastered eventually replace the browser game? That is not the plan. Our focus right now is on building the best possible mobile experience while continuing to support the game our community is currently playing. Any future decisions will be communicated transparently.
When will Rail Nation Remastered be fully released? We don’t have a release date to share yet. This playtest is genuinely early — we’re gathering feedback to help shape the game’s future direction. We’ll keep the community updated as development progresses.
How can I stay informed? Follow our official blog and Discord for all updates. If you sign up for the playtest, you’ll also receive relevant news and communications by email.
